Supermarket war: Auchan tries to prevent the establishment of a Carrefour in Bordeaux, without success

The appeal filed by Auchan against the establishment of Carrefour Market on Boulevard Wilson in Bordeaux ended up in rejection.

The offensive of major retailers to create a foothold in the center of Bordeaux is far from over. In the Gironde prefecture, it is currently the Carrefour group that is leading the dance with 41 Carrefour City and six Carrefour Market stores listed. And Carrefour intends to continue this development with, in particular, a Carrefour Market project, located on Boulevard du Président-Wilson, in the former premises of a Crédit Agricole agency.

This new store has an area of 1,675 m². The Departmental Commission for Commercial Development (CDAC) granted it a favorable opinion last July. The Auchan group, unhappy with the CDAC's decision, appealed to the National Commission for Commercial Development (CNAC), which recently reached a conclusion: turned down the request of the Auchan group and ratified the arrangement for the establishment of Carrefour Market at 304 Boulevard Wilson.

The commission notes that the project's primary location is located within "an area largely composed of dense collective housing" or that there will not be "a detrimental influence on city centre businesses". It also comments on how the landscape integration of the future brand has been improved, particularly through the 981 m² of green space added on slabs.
